Aikido is a Japanese martial art developed by Morihei
Ueshiba O-Sensei in 1942. This effective, yet non-violent system of self defense
represents the results of his life-long experience practicing a variety of classical
Japanese martial arts.
Before creating Aikido, O-Sensei trained extensively in several varieties of jujitsu,
as well as sword and spear fighting. His martial art, rooted in the matchless
fighting techniques of the Samurai, is considered one of the most effective techniques
against single or multiple adversaries Aikido
can be both a system of combat and a means of self-improvement, stamina development
and self-awareness. The power of Aikido is derived from correct use of the human
body’s mechanics, good posture and regular practice. The
Kanata Aikikai, founded in 1985, was the first martial arts school established
in the city of Kanata. Founder and Chief Instructor David
Yates Sensei has been practicing Aikido since 1980 and is well known throughout
the Canadian Aikido Federation for his powerful style.
Classes
are offered for both adults and children. Visitors
are always welcome! If
you would like to watch a class (or join in) to see what Aikido is all about,
